Today we are featuring another Varazuvi instrument, this time, the Bongo drums. Varazuvi sampled 38 separate Bongo hits for this one, all in 24bit 48khz high quality. The high quality of the samples is something we at VST a Day personally really appreciate about Varazuvi VSTs. Having high quality source audio from the beginning makes it less likely that you will cause significant hearable degradation noise when downsampling, effecting, mixing and composing. It doesn’t completely eliminate this possibility, just makes it a little less likely, and allows you a bit more safety against.

Varazuvi gives you standard Attack, Decay, Release, and Sustain options on these bongos. Bongos are often used as a “transition” effect at the end of a rhythmic subdivision – say every 4, 8, or 16 bars when working in 4/4 time. This can help to “forward the beat”, and keep it much less likely that the beat will go stale – especially if you vary these transitions effects, say by varying the notes played on the bongo slightly, or by putting every 2nd transition effect in with a slightly different rhythm. These little tricks can help you compose your tunes so they have a more natural flow, and a more head nodding effect.

Also present on this instrument, and common to many of the Varazuvi line, is a one-knob reverb. This reverb, while simple, can be combined with other effects quickly to make more complicated sounds – once you get the hang of it. Regardless of how you use it, it is nice to have the option ready for you when you need it.

What really impresses me personally is that Varazuvi releases their VSTs in both Mac and Windows, 32bit and 64bit versions. There are a wide variety of artists out there playing on a wide variety of hardware, and supporting as many as possible is simply a smart move.
