Today we are featuring a synth by DSK – DSK TechSynth PRO. It has 5 waveforms assignable to each of the 2 oscillators, as well as detune and amplitude control for each. Detune is the “drift” of the oscillator from the pure key tone. The envelope can be used to elongate or shorten the sound, its “head” with the attack, or its “tail” with the release.
Also included with this effect is a filter with Attack, Decay, Sustain and Release controls, and an LFO. The filter also has a delay effect available. The LFO has basic Speed and Depth settings that can be programmed over a full range.
What is really quite cool about this VST is the built-in step sequencers. Step sequencers can be used to produce very advanced programmed rhythmic effects, transitions, and interludes in short amounts of time. It is rare to see a free synth with a novelty feature such as this, and is definitely a fun option to have when one wants a different way to bang out a rhythm or sequenced effect.
DSK has generously included over 60 patches free with this synth, so those of you looking for a trove of patches – have fun with this one. There are some definite gems in the mix. If you haven’t checked out the video above, definitely do, as it provides a nice introduction to the sofware and a small demo of its capabilities.
Enjoy, and as always, let us know what you think in the comments section below!
