Free 4 Oscillator Synth FM-Four by ToneBytes

Free VST Download ToneBytes audio FM Four

Today we bring you a nice 4 oscillator synth by ToneBytes. Although you may not use every single one in every single sound, having 4 oscillators can certainly come in handy, especially if you are playing “experimentally”. Once all four oscillators are on, wild changes to the sound can by made with little effort. This is because the sound of each oscillator will influence the others. 4 Oscillator synths like FM-Four and Abletons Operator can do a lot with little effort, and can even fill multiple parts of your mix by putting individual parts on one or two oscillators, and the another distinct sound on one or two of the remaining oscillators. In this way you can get the most “bang for your buck” on the resources used by a single instance of the synth. However, when taking this approach please be careful that the global effects on the synth make sense for all of the parts contained within.

Here is how ToneBytes describes the synth:

“FM-Four – is an easy to use VST instrument that has four oscillators for FM synthesis with a few enhancements like emulation of YAMAHA OPL/OPL2 chipsets. FM-Four can create a wide selection of timbres which can be very rich in harmonics.

Primary features:

eight Freq Modulation Algorithms
4 oscillators with coarse tuning and fine tuning
eight waveforms for each operator (Sin, Half-sinusoid, Abs-sinusoid, Quarter-sinusoid, Sq., Triangle, Half-triangle, Abs-triangle)
Multimode LFO synced with BPM and with Random method
4 filters
8 phase envelope generator for multi mode modulator
Distortion module
Inner chorus
Internal ten band equalizer
Simple controls with pop-up menus
64 manufacturing unit presets
Built-in preset manager
In addition, VST automation and whole MIDI control are supported.”

With the multitude of controls on this Synth VST, we recommend one or multiple midi devices for control. It can be difficult to control sensitive emulated components like the Pitch and Modulation wheels, and specifically for these, as well as to gain velocity control of the keyboard, one may consider connection of one or more Midi hardware devices. If you are unsure if you would benefit from a MIDI device, perhaps it could be worthwhile to borrow one from a friend.

Definitely let us know what you think in the comments section. Happy playing!
